IEC announces a defection policy with numerous assurances

On December 11, the Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC) issued defection measures for units and battalions under the terrorist junta stationed in Karenni State, guaranteeing not only their safety but also the right to resume national defence duties.

The measures were issued so that soldiers can cooperate in restoring stability to the country and building a federal democratic union without bloodshed and with as little harm as possible to their dignity and rank. To manage defections, the IEC has formed a five-member "Defection Measures Supervisory Working Committee", and guarantees defectors the right to life, the right to live in a safe place, the right to resume duties, the right to rewards and support under CDM policies, and the right to rebuild their social lives freely, including contact with their families.
