Yangon Medical Network

YMNMovement

The Yangon Medical Network (YMN) is a network of Yangon-based medical family members who joined the CDM against the 2021 military coup.

It has not announced when it was formed, but records of an emergency relief training run jointly with the Mandalay Medical Network show that it already existed before August 22, 2021.

YMN connects with health CDM forces in other regions and, in addition to assistance, runs YMN Teleconsultation programmes for people with health difficulties. Its support includes clothing and medicine, and it also goes into the field to provide treatment for displaced people and for revolutionary forces waging armed resistance against the terrorist junta.

Beyond direct revolutionary work, the network also provides online health guidance for the public, and runs trainings and discussions to help treat the psychological and physical harm suffered in many ways by displaced people and revolutionary force members in the country's armed conflicts.

At the same time, to ensure continued education for CDM medical students taking part in the struggle against military dictatorship, it works with the Interim University Council of University of Medicine – 2 to run ongoing courses mainly for Final Part 2 medical students, newly qualified doctors who have completed house surgeon internships, and medical workers helping on the front lines of the revolution. It also develops and teaches separate IDP camp courses for displaced people and those sheltering in IDP camps.

It has also issued medical-perspective analyses for the public on how, in the armed conflicts across the country, armed personnel under the terrorist junta are made by their superiors at various levels to use stimulant drugs and then ordered to attack civilians and revolutionary forces.

In addition to support and continuing education, as political activity YMN holds "Swal Taw Pwint Thit" discussion circles together with CDM medical workers across the country, and has declared full support for and provided support to the "10:27" operations carried out by ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) fighting the terrorist junta.

As a member of the health CDM forces grouping, the network also takes part politically in the "Committee for Convening the CDM Civil Servants' Conference" formed in November 2023.

Beyond support, education and political activities, YMN also conducts research within the medical community; on February 3, 2024, it called on all CDM students from 16 universities to respond to its research "Examining the Educational and Psychological Impacts on CDM Students at Medical and Medical-Related Universities Due to the Military Coup".
