Magwe forces send a letter to Singapore urging action against Interra Resources

An open letter containing the four requests, signed by 20 civil society organizations, the People's Defense Committee, and the Union, was sent to the Singapore government and the Singapore Stock Exchange Group on February 13. It included Interra Resources, which has been selling fuel to be used in the war crimes committed by the Myanmar military junta, which has been requested to immediately cease its supply of oil to the Myanmar military group and to delist from the Singapore Stock Exchange, among other demands.

The letter was addressed to the Prime Minister of Singapore, the Minister of Finance Mr. Lawrence Wong, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, as well as the Chairman of Singapore's Monetary Authority Mr. Gan Kim Yong, and the CEO of Singapore Stock Exchange Group Mr. Loh Boon Chye. The letter was sent in both English and Burmese.

Interra Resources, through its 60% owned Goldpetrol Joint Operation Company Inc., sold over 2.3 million barrels of crude oil worth 150 million U.S. dollars to the Myanmar military junta. This oil has been a major component in the military's offensive against civilians. Interra Resources’ ongoing business connections with the Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE), which is sanctioned by the European Union and the United States, directly involve the company in international crimes. The letter also emphasizes that immediate action should be taken, as it would demonstrate Singapore's commitment to human rights and corporate responsibility.

The letter makes the following specific demands: (1) Immediate cessation of Interra Resources' oil supply to the Myanmar military junta; (2) Cancellation of Interra Resources' listing on the Singapore Stock Exchange to prevent further involvement in human rights violations; (3) A systematic investigation into Interra Resources' operations in Myanmar and their support for the military’s war crimes, and legal accountability for Interra Resources' financial support and complicity in crimes committed by the military, especially considering that MOGE is under the illegal control of Myanmar's military, which is financing terrorism and supporting armed groups; and (4) Sanctions against Myanmar’s oil and gas industry, including MOGE, Myanmar Petroleum Exploration (MPE), Myanmar Foreign Trade Bank (MFTB), Myanmar Investment and Commercial Bank (MICB), and Myanmar Economic Bank (MEB), all of which are under the control of the junta.
