"Systematic repression" against democracy in Myanmar
Military juntas is crushing Myanmar's democracy in "systematic repression", said United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in ASEAN Summit meeting with US, China and regional leaders on 7 September in Jakarta, Indonesia.
He also notes "brutal violance and worsening poverty" and sees no possibility for safe return of Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh who fled the country since 2017.
Guterres also demanded the military junta to release detained political leaders and other political prisoners and return to the democratic rule.
