Legal Aid Network Releases Review of the Chin State Constitution (2023)

CNFICNCC

On January 19, the Legal Aid Network released a review from the perspectives of the rule of law and constitutionalism of the enactment by revolutionary forces in Chin State of the Chinland Constitution (2023) to be used during the revolutionary period.

LAN described the enactment of the Chinland Constitution as a historic political milestone despite differing views about it. Its statement noted that the Chinland Parliament is made up only of representatives who won the 2020 election; that although the state is to be organized under a prime ministerial system by law, it is the Chinland Council rather than the government that is made accountable; that basic provisions for an independent judiciary are insufficient; and that making the chief justice and judges accountable to the council could create structural confusion between state mechanisms and institutions. The statement also included five recommendations.
