During a meeting with the leaders of Myanmar's political forces and ethnic forces, the US government urged them to build cohesion among pro-democracy actors and encourage the transition to a civilian government that respects the will of the people.

On August 19, the US government announced that U.S. Department of State Counselor Tom Sullivan and U.S. Agency for International Development Assistant Administrator Michael Schiffer had a virtual meeting on August 16 with the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), the National Unity Government (NUG),  the Karen National Union (KNU), Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), and the Chin National Front (CNF), and made such an appeal during the meeting.

During the discussion, the US government had also agreed to provide humanitarian assistance and increase assistance for development processes, to promote accountability for atrocities and human rights abuses committed by any parties that were happening in Myanmar, and to cooperate with the international community, including ASEAN and the United Nations for Myanmar issues.
